What is the Community Cup?
The first Community Cup organized by APOYO was a golazo!
The players stretched and the whistles were prepared as the Community Cup kicked off to a rainy start! In the first half, the red team held the lead 2-1. However, as the second half took place, the blue team made the best of their time and scored two goals to tie the game and force overtime. The captains were given the option to decide how to break the tie, and both teams chose the Golden Goal, where the first team to score in the given time wins. In the end, the red team won the game with a 4-3 Golden Goal victory in overtime.
After working up an appetite, we enjoyed freshly grilled carne asada and other delicious dishes made by our community members. There were also refreshing “aguas frescas” by MEChA and sweet treats for everyone! At the health and resource fair, community members were able to speak with local organizations about available resources offered to the community.
APOYO would like to extend a big “thank you” to David Avalos-Martinez, red team, blue team, and all volunteers involved! Events like these are made possible because of your support.
We are glad to hear any feedback. Please feel free to contact David if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
